Sixth graders at St. Mary Catholic Community School ended their ecology unit dissecting Barn Owl pellets. The students were intrigued by their discoveries finding skulls of rodents and beaks of smaller birds in the pellets. This gave insight to the Barn Owl's diet and place in the food web. “Hands on science” is an important part of the curriculum at St. Mary’s, said teacher, Michelle Sarabia.

Sommer Branigin and Claire Staciwa were thrilled to find a full skull in their owl pellet.

Victoria Townsend and Sophia Scalzitti carefully examine their owl pellet.
